About the event

Special seafood bowl is included!

Aji and saba are two of the most familiar fish in Japanese cuisine, yet many people don’t fully understand how different they actually are.

In this session of Ask Takuya, we explore the biological differences between horse mackerel and mackerel, including how they live, move, and feed in the ocean.

Takuya will also touch on the cultural side — how these fish have been eaten, valued, and enjoyed in Japan for generations, and why they hold such an important place in everyday food culture.

This session offers a deeper appreciation for these humble but essential fish that appear on so many Japanese tables.
